How to get started

1

Cut Open Grow Bag

Using a clean knife, cut a 3” x 3” ‘X’ into one side of the bag—it’s okay to cut into the sawdust! You’ll likely see white, pink, or yellow growth inside, which is healthy mycelium. If you notice green fuzzy mold, reach out for support.

2

Spray Your Grow Bag

Fill the included sprayer with filtered or distilled water and mist the cut area at least twice daily, or more often in dry conditions. Keep up this routine, and tiny mushrooms (“pins”) should appear in a few days. If not, you can loosely cover the block with a hole-punched bag to boost humidity.

3

Watch Your Mushrooms Grow

Watch your mushrooms grow! Be sure to mist your mushrooms every day to keep them moist. You may need to mist them twice a day if you’re in a dry climate. As your mushrooms grow, keep an eye out for signs that they’re ready to be harvested. Refer to our harvesting guide below for more information!

4

Harvest Your Mushrooms

Lion’s Mane mushrooms are ready to harvest when the icicle-like spines hanging from the fruit body are developed and still pristine white, about 2-3 weeks after they begin to emerge from the block. As Lion’s Mane matures further, the tips of the spines may start to turn yellow or brown, suggesting it is past its prime harvesting stage.

To harvest, gently grab the entire cluster and twist it off the substrate, or carefully remove with a disinfected knife where the mushroom grows out of the substrate.

FAQs and Tips

How long does it take for Lion’s Mane mushrooms to grow?

Lion’s Mane mushrooms are a bit slower than oysters — you’ll typically see the first signs of growth within 10–14 days after cutting open the bag, with full harvests ready in another 10-14 days. Keep the environment cool (60–70°F / 16–21°C) and humid (90–95%) to encourage steady development of dense, shaggy clusters. You’ll notice the fruit start as small white puffs before elongating into their signature “icicle” formations.

Why is my Lion’s Mane discolored?

This is usually caused by a lack of humidity and too much airflow, which is causing the lion's mane to dry out. Try moving it to a more humid area with gentle airflow if this occurs, and avoid spraying the mushroom directly with water if you can.

Can I get multiple harvests from my Lion’s Mane kit?

Yes! A healthy kit can yield 2 flushes. After harvesting, cut away any remaining tissue, mist the surface lightly, and keep the same fruiting conditions. Allow about 10–14 days between flushes for the block to rest and rehydrate. Each subsequent flush will usually be smaller but just as flavorful and tender.
