Black Pearl Oyster Ready-to-Fruit Mushroom Grow Kit

Grow gourmet Black Pearl Oyster mushrooms at home with a fully colonized ready-to-fruit block from Redwood Mushroom Supply. Black Pearl Oysters are known for dark caps, substantial stems, dense clusters, and a rich savory flavor that holds up well to sautéing, roasting, grilling, and stir-frying.

Black Pearl is a cool-growing variety that should be fruited from the top of the block. Keep the block inside its grow bag, cut off the top above the filter patch, and leave at least 6 inches of plastic above the substrate to create a humidity collar. Aim for 50–62°F, 85–95% humidity, indirect light, and steady fresh-air exchange.

Black Pearl generally fruits more slowly than Pink or Grey Oyster. A second indoor flush is possible, but it is less reliable and should not be expected from every block.

Why You'll Love Black Pearl Oyster

🖤 Striking Dark Caps — Charcoal-to-slate caps and thick pale stems make Black Pearl visually distinctive.
🍄 Rich, Savory Flavor — Dense stems and substantial caps hold up well to sautéing, roasting, grilling, and stir-frying.
❄️ Cool-Season Performer — Performs best in cooler indoor conditions or a temperature-controlled grow tent.
🌱 Fully Colonized & Ready to Fruit — No substrate preparation or incubation is required.
💧 Spray Bottle Included — Every kit includes a spray bottle for humidity management.
♻️ Second Flush Possible — A second indoor flush can occur, but Black Pearl is best treated as primarily a first-flush variety and additional flushes are not guaranteed.

What Makes Black Pearl Oyster Mushrooms Special

Black Pearl Oyster combines the clustered growth habit of oyster mushrooms with the thick stems and substantial texture associated with King Oyster mushrooms. It prefers cool, humid fruiting conditions with steady fresh air.

    Top-Fruiting Setup

For this RMS grow kit, Black Pearl should fruit from the top of the block. Keep the block inside its grow bag, cut off the top above the filter patch, and leave at least 6 inches of plastic above the substrate as a humidity collar. Do not use a side X or slit as the standard method.

    Second Flush Expectations

Black Pearl is best treated as a primarily first-flush variety. A second indoor flush is possible but less reliable than with standard oyster mushrooms. Fruiting time, harvest size, and additional flushes vary with temperature, humidity, fresh air, and block condition.

    Instructions

How to Use Your Black Pearl Oyster Grow Kit

    1. Remove the grow kit from the RMS cardboard shipping box and keep the block inside its original plastic grow bag.
    2. Wash your hands or wear clean gloves. Stand the block upright.
    3. Use clean scissors to cut off the top of the bag above the filter patch. Leave at least 6 inches of plastic above the substrate to create a humidity collar. Keep the sides of the bag intact.
    4. For countertop growing, place the block on a clean tray in a cool room with indirect light. If the room is dry, loosely cover the kit with a clean plastic bag as a DIY humidity tent and leave the bottom loose or add a few small holes.
    5. Mist the inside walls of the humidity tent as needed. Avoid soaking developing mushrooms directly.
    6. For an automated grow tent, aim for 50–62°F, 85–95% humidity, indirect light, and steady fresh-air exchange without direct fan blast.
    7. Harvest when the caps are nearly open and flat but the outer edges are still slightly curled downward.
    8. After harvest, remove leftover stem tissue and keep the block cool, humid, and exposed to steady fresh air. A second indoor flush is possible but less reliable and should not be expected from every block.

Optional Cold Shock for a Stalled Block

Cold shock is not part of the normal first-fruiting setup. Consider it only if the block is fully colonized, has been in correct fruiting conditions for about 2 weeks without pinning, and temperature, humidity, and fresh-air exchange have already been checked.

    1. Keep the block inside its grow bag so the refrigerator does not dry it out.
    2. Refrigerate at about 35–45°F for approximately 24 hours. Do not freeze the block.
    3. Return the block to its fruiting area.
    4. Resume 50–62°F fruiting conditions, 85–95% humidity, indirect light, and steady fresh air.

Cold shock will not correct chronically low humidity, stale air, excessive warmth, or a dried-out block. Fix those conditions first.
