How To Assemble a Martha Tent

How To Assemble a Martha Tent

Your ShroomRoom Kit comes with all of the components you need to assemble and grow mushrooms, but you’ll need scissors or a sharp blade to complete your setup. If you have questions, send an email to contact@redwoodmushroomsupply.com. Happy growing!

Automating an indoor mushroom grow is not as complex as it seems - the basics require airflow, an enclosed space, and humidity. From there, it's a matter of dialing in your equipment settings to match the mushroom of your choice. Read on below to see what you'll need, and what conditions are ideal for some of the most popular gourmet mushrooms.

Where should I place my mushroom grow tent?

Place your tent in a clean, temperature-controlled space away from direct sunlight or heating/cooling vents. A room with ambient light or a window is ideal.

Do I need a grow light?

If you do not have ambient light or a small lamp you can leave on near your grow tent for 10-12 hours per day, a grow light with timer is recommended. Mushrooms do not require intense light - if you can read a book under the lamp, it is sufficient for mushroom growth.

Do I need to vent spores out a window?

When harvested at the right time, it is possible to reduce the impact of spores in your grow area. If you are worried about spores being released into your grow area, you can setup a secondary fan system using a small fan and exhaust ducting to blow out a nearby window.

Does the included filter catch spores?

Our included filter can catch spores from recirculating within your room and tent, and can be washed and reused. That being said, it is not 100% effective against spores, but can significantly reduce spores within your grow environment.

Are your filters reusable? How often do they need replacement?

Our filters can be washed with warm water and soap if there is buildup present from spores or dust. Pat dry before reapplying.

Our filters should be replaced every 3-5 grow cycles if they have undergone heavy use and should be washed between cycles if spore buildup is present.

How often should I refill the humidifier?

Your humidifier will need to be refilled every 48-72 hours if you are using a smaller model like the T3 included with most of our kits. The larger T7 humidifier has a tank capacity around 4 times that of the T3, allowing it to last up to 10 days.

How do I balance humidity and fresh air?

Fresh air and humidity are sort of opposites — increasing one often decreases the other. During pinning, keep humidity slightly higher and airflow lower to help pins form. Once mushrooms begin to develop, increase fresh air by opening vents or adjusting fan settings to promote thicker stems and wider caps.

Aim to keep your humidity in fruiting around 85% to maximize fresh air - too much air input may create difficulty with achieving target humidity - if your tent base is full of water or your humidifier is running out very quickly, this may be a sign that your balance is off.

A good tip is to always watch your tent get up to the desired humidity when you make fan adjustments so that you know you are hitting your target.

What temperature should I keep inside the tent?

Ideal temperatures depend on the species you’re growing, but most do well between 60–75°F (16–24°C). Avoid big temperature swings — consistency is key. If your space runs warm, open vents for airflow; if it’s cold, use a small space heater outside the tent (never inside) to maintain stability.

Some mushrooms require colder temperatures - for this, you may want to use a supplemental AC in your grow area - this is better than pumping more cold air into the tent as it can offset the balance of your tent.

Can I grow different mushroom species in the same tent?

Yes, but only if their temperature and humidity needs overlap. Some species (like pink oysters) prefer slightly warmer, tropical conditions, while others (like trumpet mushrooms) grow best in cooler, high-humidity environments. If you’re a beginner, start with one or two species per cycle for predictable results, and try to grow species that fit in the same temperature and humidity ranges.

Blue/Gray Oyster Grow Parameters

Pinning: High humidity (95–99%) with low airflow
Fruiting: Increase airflow; humidity 85–90%
Temperature: 65–75°F (18–24°C)
Tip: Grows fast — prioritize fresh air fan on high once pins appear to prevent long stems and small caps

Pink Oyster Oyster Grow Parameters

Pinning: Very high humidity (95–99%) and low airflow
Fruiting: Increase airflow and reduce humidity slightly (85–90%)
Temperature: 70–85°F (24–29°C)
Tip: Thrives in warm, tropical conditions — sensitive to cold; color fades if humidity drops or airflow is too strong

Shiitake Growth Parameters

Pinning: Moderate humidity (90–95%) and low airflow
Fruiting: Slightly more airflow, humidity 80–85%
Temperature: 60–70°F (16–21°C)
Tip: Often needs a soak or cold shock to trigger pinning

Lion's Mane Growth Parameters

Pinning: Very high humidity (95–99%), minimal airflow
Fruiting: Increase airflow slightly, humidity 90–95%
Temperature: 60–70°F (16–21°C)
Tip: Avoid direct misting; gentle airflow helps spines elongate

Chestnut Growth Parameters

Pinning: High humidity (~95%) and lower airflow
Fruiting: Gradually increase airflow; humidity 85–90%
Temperature: 60–70°F (16–21°C)
Tip: Prefers steady surface moisture — avoid strong air currents or drying
